Learning Outcomes
Knowledge:- define epidemiology; - define health; - to list the categories of health determinants; - to name the principles on which the health impact pyramid is based; - formulate principles for the assessment of health-related events and conditions; - to define the concepts of health, disease, illness, and sickness; - classify and describe disease prevention levels; - to formulate disease screening within the secondary disease prevention; - identify the preconditions for disease screening for disease, testing, and treatment; - name the measures of diagnostic tests; - to identify mortality indicators; - formulate the principles of evidence-based medicine; - to classify the main designs of epidemiological studies; - name the measures of the associations; - define the concepts of confounding and bias in research.
Skills:- apply the concepts used in epidemiology accordingly; - differentiate interventions within the health impact pyramid; - explain the differences between the different mortality indicators used; - distinguish between disease prevention strategies and levels; - differentiate between causal and non-causal factor associations and health events; - calculate basic epidemiological indicators; - calculate morbidity and mortality rates; - calculate the measures of diagnostic tests; - calculate the epidemiological measures of associations; - to evaluate the validity of epidemiological studies according to the study design.
