Objective: | To advance the future masters’ of “Health communication” understanding of mechanisms for regulation of vital functions and their disorders in the body; to develop a knowledge base in order to be able to make a proper decision for educating the public on health promotion issues. | ||||||||

Unaided Work: | • analysis of the latest medical publications; • preparation of independent assignments (reports and summaries); • preparation and presentation of individual projects; • training exercises and clinical case analysis. In order to evaluate the quality of the study course as a whole, the student must fill out the study course evaluation questionnaire on the Student Portal. | ||||||||
Assessment Criteria: | Final score is based on a cumulative weighted assessment consisting of: a) Active participation (completed protocol for each lesson) – 25%. b) Independent work on the selected subject: - prepared report – 25%; - presentation – 25%. c) An exam (multi-choice test) – 25%. | ||||||||

Learning Outcomes | |||||||||
Knowledge: | Students will know: • basic structure of the human body and vital functions of the body; • the concepts of physiology at various age groups and constitutional types; • differences in normal and abnormal growth of cells and tissues; • the concepts of "health, disease, pathological process"; • pathogenesis of the most common diseases of the circulatory and respiratory diseases; the impact of hypoxia on tissue; • pathogenesis of the most common endocrine diseases; risk factors for diabetes; • the impact of the internal and external environment on the human organism systems; the effects and manifestation of the low and high body temperature; • basic mechanisms for the operation of the immune system and the development of allergic reactions; • the compensator-adaptive processes in the body; causes of the psycho-emotional and somatic stress; • how to explain the basic symptoms and course of the disease based on abnormal changes; • how to identify changes in the human body growth compared to the norm – reduced and elevated body mass; • basic diagnostic methods and treatment principles; • how medical terms are formed. | ||||||||
Skills: | Students will be able to: • understand the structure, operation and interconnectedness of the main body systems; • identify tissue and organ pathology compared to the standard, based on key diagnostic methods; • explain in reasoned manner the basic symptoms and course of the diseases based on typical pathological changes; • understand, form and accurately use medical terms. | ||||||||
Competencies: | Students will be able to: • evaluate and analyse the impact of internal and external environment on the systems of the human organism at different ages; • understand the compensator-adaptive reactions of the body depending on environmental effects; • discuss the need for a healthy lifestyle based on the changes in body functions; • discuss in a reasoned way the health risk factors. | ||||||||
