Preliminary Knowledge: | Latvian and English Alphabet. | ||||||||
Objective: | To acquire skills and knowledge of correct reading, writing, usage and explanation of anatomical terms, the usage of this knowledge in the professional work. | ||||||||

Assessment | |||||||||
Unaided Work: | Learning vocabulary forms of the noun and adjectives; acquiring medical combining forms; fulfilling regular home assignments on the themes taken; checking performed exercises and doing similar tasks in the practical classes; work with dictionaries, additional materials and the internet to get the deeper comprehension of the medical terms. | ||||||||
Assessment Criteria: | Attendance, participation and quality of answers in practical classes, timely and high-quality independent work; successfully written 2 tests (the first test gives 50% and the second test gives 43% of the study course final assessment), in which the ability to form word matching is tested by identifying words and using correct endings; ability to correctly write, explain and classify terms. The rest 7% of the study course final assessment the students have from their Independent works (7 of them). The exam grade is cumulative. | ||||||||

Learning Outcomes | |||||||||
Knowledge: | On completion of the course the student will know: • to define basic rules in reading and writing of medical terminology; • to name the Latin and Greek prefixes and word endings for new word formation; • to name and explain the Latin combining forms and their meanings; • to interpret rules for making, explaining and usage of anatomical and clinical terms. | ||||||||
Skills: | On completion of the study course the students will be able to: • read and write correctly the medical terms; • form new words and to identify them; • form and explain the anatomical and medical terms; • classify and compare the medical terms; • to interpret Latin expressions, understand their meaning. | ||||||||
Competencies: | On completion of the study course, the students will be able to write and use properly anatomical terminology in academic settings and in their speciality. | ||||||||
