On 7 November 2023 at 15.30, the Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) Faculty of European Studies, in cooperation with the Latvian Institute of International Affairs and the Taipei Mission in the Republic of Latvia invites you to a lecture on the political and economic challenges of East Asia by Mr Joseph (Jaushieh) Wu, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Taiwan.
The guest lecture will offer an insight into the political and economic developments in East Asia and Taiwan in particular, providing a concise but comprehensive overview of the region.
Joseph Wu will focus on the political processes, dynamics, conflicts, and solutions in the region; economic development; security and geopolitical aspects; future prospects and challenges – projections and potential development paths.
The lecture will be moderated by Kārlis Bukovskis, the Director of the Latvian Institute of International Affairs.
About the lecturer
Jaushieh (Joseph) Wu is Taiwan's Minister of Foreign Affairs since 2018 under President Tsai Ing-wen. He previously served as Secretary-General of the President's Office and Secretary-General of the National Security Council of the Republic of Taiwan. From 2007 to 2008, he was the Chief Representative to the United States of America and headed the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office. He received his PhD in Political Science from the Ohio State University in 1989 and was awarded the Distinguished Alumni Award in 2008. He served as a Research Assistant in the Political Science Department and as Deputy Director of the Institute of International Relations of the National Chengchi University in Taiwan.
