Preliminary Knowledge: | Basic knowledge of police work. | ||||||||
Objective: | To introduce students to the current problems and competence of international police structural units in cooperation with citizens. Tasks: to build theoretical and practical skills in communication with the parties involved in situations, other state and local government institutions, different population groups. To carry out preventive work, paying special attention to the prevention of theft, hate crimes, radicalization and violence. Gain knowledge about victims' rights, especially police work with vulnerable groups of persons and repeat victims. | ||||||||

Assessment | |||||||||
Unaided Work: | Group project, analysis of situations and problems, preparation of discussions and public presentations on the chosen security problem in the neighborhood. Analysis of judgments of the European Court of Human Rights on police work and human rights. In order to evaluate the quality of the study course as a whole, the student must fill out the study course evaluation questionnaire on the Student Portal. | ||||||||
Assessment Criteria: | A student who has attended less than half of the lectures and has not successfully passed the practical work of the mid-examination – a presentation on a security problem may not be admitted to the exam. The final evaluation of the course consists of an evaluation of the individually performed security problem analysis (50%) and an exam grade (50%), the main criterion of which is the amount and quality of acquired knowledge. | ||||||||

Learning Outcomes | |||||||||
Knowledge: | The student will gain knowledge about the actualities of prevention work and community-oriented police work methods in Latvia and abroad. Knowledge of specific crime prevention and professional treatment of victims. Knowledge of modern prevention work methods and will be able to apply the acquired knowledge in practice. | ||||||||
Skills: | Skills to apply these methods in daily police work, skills to use the obtained results for work planning and crime reduction. Ability to analyze and solve the security situation and involve cooperation partners. | ||||||||
Competencies: | After completing the course, the student will be able to fulfill the prescribed duties in accordance with the prescribed requirements for working with victims. | ||||||||
