Preliminary Knowledge: | Knowledge of anatomy and physiology. | ||||||||
Objective: | To provide the possibility to acquire the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities for prevention of accidents and provision of first aid, if it has occurred in professional work of an education and sports work specialist or in daily life – in accordance with the first aid guidelines developed and approved by the Emergency Medical Service of the Republic of Latvia, which have been developed on the basis of international guidelines for resuscitation of adults and children (European Resuscitation Council Guidelines for resuscitation 2021). | ||||||||

Assessment | |||||||||
Unaided Work: | 1. Independent work on the topic “Provision of first aid to a victim of an accident (or a person who suddenly got sick) during a sports lesson” – to present to the whole group a situation (fictional or real) in which it is necessary to provide first aid to a victim or a person who suddenly got sick. The presentation should include a description of the situation, the rescuer’s actions and recommendations for actions to prevent these types of accidents in the future. 2. In seminars, students execute several first aid training algorithms to learn the sequence of action steps in situations where the victim is unconscious and breathing or not breathing, when the victim has severe bleeding and needs to be protected from exposure to the environment. | ||||||||
Assessment Criteria: | Independent work on the topic “Provision of first aid to a victim of an accident (or a person who suddenly got sick) during a sports lesson”; Resuscitation measures when the victim is unconscious and not breathing. Resuscitation measures when the victim is unconscious and breathing. Stopping severe bleeding and wrapping in a foil blanket. Test on severe bleeding and chest pain. Final test. | ||||||||

Learning Outcomes | |||||||||
Knowledge: | 1. Will know the basic principles for determining the degree of injury of the victim. 2. Will know the correct and effective principles for using the contents of the first aid kit. 3. Will know safety aspects while providing first aid. 4. Will know the basic principles of transport immobilisation, moving the victim and independent transportation. | ||||||||
Skills: | 5. Will be able to provide adequate first aid in various sports incidents. 6. Will be able to correctly stop severe bleeding. 7. Will be able to protect the victim from exposure to the environment. 8. Will be able to perform resuscitation measures correctly. | ||||||||
Competencies: | 9. Will deepen understanding of the preservation of the function of the organs vital for human life. 10. Will deeply understand the impact of ambient temperature on the function of the organs vital for human life and the damage it causes. 11. Will deepen understanding of the organisation of work in a situation with several victims. 12. Will deepen understanding of action steps, in cases of various injuries. 13. Will deepen understanding of the actions needed to prevent accidents. | ||||||||
