Objective: | Broaden the knowledge and understanding of the students of the Department of Welfare and Social work regarding the development of social street work in Latvia and the world, the aims, tasks and necessary knowledge of the social street worker, work with different target groups and the development of social street work programmes. | ||||||||

Unaided Work: | Attendance: 15%, getting acquainted with research, group work: 20%, observation, designing social services for a street target group: 35%, examination (written): 30%. | ||||||||
Assessment Criteria: | Activity in lectures and classes, analysis of a ‘simulated case’ and a report on the observation. | ||||||||

Learning Outcomes | |||||||||
Knowledge: | Upon the completion of the study course, the student will be able to: • describe the development of social street work in the world and in Latvia; • recognise various forms of social street work and describe differences between them; • describe target groups of a social street worker; • describe the tasks of a social street worker; • explain the role of social street work in working with a client. | ||||||||
Skills: | Upon the completion of the study course, the student will be able to: • assess the needs of the social street worker’s target group; • draw up a social rehabilitation plan appropriate for the client needs; • apply skills in establishing cooperation with the client (establishing initial contact, mutual communication, etc.); • take preventive measures for various target groups of social street work. | ||||||||
Competencies: | The student is able to describe the development of social street work in the world and in Latvia, and the target groups of social street work. The student is able to define the key concepts of social street work. The student is able to analyse social problems of a target group of social street work, as well as analyse the need for social street work activities. | ||||||||
