Learning Outcomes | |||||||||
Knowledge: | As a result of completing the study course students will gain an understanding of investigation of female reproductive system, foetal position in the uterine cavity (Leopold’s manoeuvres), gain understanding of methods of childbirth pain relief, importance of cervical examination in the childbirth process, learn methods for monitoring the wellbeing of a foetus and gain understanding of a midwife’s role in period I, II and III of childbirth, facilitation of neonatal adaptation period and postnatal care, assessment of foetal heart tones, indications, performance and result interpretation of gynaecological examinations, indications of performing additional examinations, interpretation of results, documentation of gynaecological patients and their preparation for inpatient and outpatient examinations and manipulations. | ||||||||
Skills: | As a result of completing the study course students will have learned the specific methods of gynaecological investigation and filling out of documentation, special investigative techniques during pregnancy, classic hand manoeuvres for vaginal delivery. Will be able to use methods for relieving the pain of physiological childbirth, will be able to auscultate foetal heart tones and assess CTG records. Students will know how to facilitate the adaptation period of newborns, how to maintain the hygiene and safety of newborns. Will be able to practically assist in initiating breastfeeding. Will be able to educate patients about specific investigative methods (USG, mammography) and the self-examination method of breasts. Students will have skills in suturing first degree perineal and vaginal tears and suture removal. | ||||||||
Competencies: | Upon successful completion of the study course students will be able assess and apply appropriate clinical procedures, medical devices and other activities to ensure optimal patient care, will be able to analyse situations, argue, logically express and explain their opinion. | ||||||||
