Lecturers from University of Bern to give workshop on emergency traumatology and wilderness medicine
From 19 to 21 June the Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) Medical Education Technology Centre, in collaboration with the Faculty of Continuing Education will host a workshop given by lecturers of the Department of Emergency Medicine, Inselspital University Hospital of Bern and medical simulation instructors, Monika Brodmann Maeder, MD PhD, Susanne Nüesch, MD PhD, and Susanne Eichenberger, MD.
Monika Brodmann Maeder (Interlaken, Switzerland) is a specialist in pre-hospital and clinical medicine, one of the leading wilderness, mountain and expedition medicine experts and author of many international publications. She conducts wilderness medical training at Inselspital University Hospital of Bern and is the lead researcher at the Institute of Mountain Emergency Medicine, European Research Academy (EURAC) Bolzano, Italy. Since 2003, M.Brodmann Maeder is participating in the implementation of several medical and education projects in Nepal. She is also a medical instructor for mountain and rescue helicopter servicing teams.
On 19 June, from 14.00–17.00 the Medical Education Technology Centre and Department of Clinical Skills and Medical Technologies is organising the following guest lectures by Monika Brodmann Maeder and Susanne Eichenberger in the RSU central building (16 Dzirciema iela) Auditorium No. 3:
- The art of medical education in emergency medicine;
- The ABCDE algorithm in trauma assessment.
On 20 and 21 June, medical simulation experts from the University of Bern, in collaboration with academic staff from the RSU Medical Education Technology Centre and Department of Clinical Skills and Medical Technologies will conduct practical simulation-based classes.
