RSU discusses possible participation in "CERN-Medicis"

On 24 May, the Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) Department of Physics, in cooperation with Riga Technical University (RTU) organised a visit of CERN-Medicis coordinator and scientist Thierry Stora with the RSU Vice-Rector for Administration and Development Toms Baumanis to discuss cooperation possibilities between RSU and the European Organisation for Nuclear Research (CERN) and the potential involvement of RSU in CERN-Medicis project activities.

During the visit Thierry Stora gave a lecture on non-conventional radioisotopes for medical applications.

The lecture was also attended by colleagues from the RSU Radiology Scientific Laboratory, RSU Nuclear Medicine Centre, clinics and other structural units. 

CERN-Medicis is a project during which it is planned to produce a new type of radioactive isotopes for medical needs. Access to these isotopes would allow RSU to develop different projects in medical research, target beam therapy, surgery, hadron therapy treatment with PET that can be implemented together with medical and fundamental research organisations from all over the world that are already involved in cooperation with CERN. For more information
