How did you draw up your Learning Agreement?

I made it myself and it had to be approved by the dean here at RSU.

How is the study process organized in the receiving university? What is different compared to RSU?

I was happy to see that Faculty of Medicine organised studies on-site (it was the only faculty allowed to do that, because students were asked to help with work in hospitals and in Covid-19 testing and vaccination points).

The exams are conducted orally and are quite challenging, so passing them gives you great sense of accomplishment. I participated in many surgeries (spine, gynaecological, arthroscopic surgeries, removal of brain tumor, etc.), I was allowed to assist in some surgeries, which I enjoyed quite a lot. I had the opportunity to work a night shift in a gynaecology department of a hospital, so I examined women with complications in the last months of pregnancies and witnessed child-birth. This was a great experience!

What were the living conditions?

Living conditions were very good, if you choose to live in dormitory with mostly other Erasmus+ mobility students, you should expect a lot of noise. However, you can choose to live in other dormitories or rent a room in a flat.

Did the Erasmus+ grant cover the living expenses?

The grant covered about 70 % of my expenses.

Your advice and recommendations for others choosing this city for their mobility

Choosing the Czech Republic as a mobility destination for medical students is worth it – the doctors are supportive and cooperative, people are friendly – you will gain great experience both academically and practically. The Czech Republic is beautiful and it is easy to travel to other destinations from there as well.

There are, of course, some complications, such as, sometimes Erasmus students were not sufficiently informed about the location of changing rooms, finding and navigating the many hospital buildings is hard. However, in time you get used to it all and you can always try to find one of your course mates and ask them for help.

The best memory or experience from Erasmus+ mobility

Definitely the first time I assisted in a surgery and seeing children being brought into this world. Late nights in the university’s library and the sense of accomplishment I felt from passing an exam. And of course, the beautiful and mountainous Pálava Hills and Adršpach – some of the many pearls of the Czech Republic.

The most valuable realization or lesson you have learned

Challenges are good; they make us stronger and life – more interesting. You must be enthusiastic because it opens up many opportunities for you.
