Medical University of Warsaw
How did you draw up your Learning Agreement?
The Medical University of Warsaw sends all the information and instructions necessary to prepare individual plan in due time. It is a good opportunity for students to choose a subject on a specific date. Another important fact is that if there were any problems with the preparation of the LA, students can ask the university coordinators for help and get a fast and accurate answer.
How is the study process organized in the receiving university? What is different compared to RSU?
Students start the "cycle system” in their 3rd year. An individual doctor or professor is responsible for certain theoretical or practical topic in the cycle. The studies usually start with a 45–90 minute lecture, followed by practical sessions dedicated to the topic of the lecture. This practical session was sometimes followed by another lecture, the topic of which was not covered in the practical session. These lectures are more informative and theoretical. I liked this system very much because students have the opportunity to learn the theory and also to see and practice the material during the day. Doctors and professors are also willing to show and tell you as much as possible about their subject.
What were the living conditions?
I lived in the centre of Warsaw, in a dormitory for foreign students, in a double room with own kitchen and bathroom. There was also a communal kitchen, laundry facilities, lounges, study rooms, and a gym in the dormitory. Public transport goes directly from the dormitory to the main university building and several hospitals.
Did the Erasmus+ grant cover the living expenses?
Definitely enough. Of course, it depends on the student’s needs. The good news is that you can get great discounts with a student card issued by the university, such as 70% discount for public transport and free entry to some places, such as museums. Students are highly respected and supported in Poland.
Your advice and recommendations for others choosing this city for their mobility
I definitely recommend Poland to all students who want to experience real student life. Warsaw is really a student city that every student will enjoy. I didn't hear one bad thing about the ERASMUS+ exchange programme in Warsaw. During ERASMUS, many students don't go home for holidays, they travel. There are two airports in Warsaw with flights to all European destinations, and you can find a unique opportunity to visit places that are difficult or expensive to reach from Riga.
The best memory or experience from Erasmus+ mobility
Getting to know people not only from Europe, but also from other countries of the world. ERASMUS+ exchange programme offers a unique opportunity to meet different people and get to know their culture better.
