Baltic and Nordic researchers meet up in Rīga

The first of them took place in the office of the Nordic Council of Ministers in Latvia, with which the research group has established a successful and far-reaching strategic cooperation. The seminar "Latvia in the context of aging research in the Baltic and Nordic countries" included a presentation entitled "Two small countries - how similar are we?" Review of the results and discussion on the health and well-being of people aged 67+ in Latvia and Iceland", as well as a future cooperation project supported by the science cooperation platform of the Nordic Council of Ministers NordForsk with the current topic "Sustainable working life in the Nordic-Baltic region". The introduction was made by Stefan Eriksson, director of the office of the Nordic Council of Ministers, noting the common trends in demographic development and the need to join forces in both research and practical activities. The presentations were followed by an intense exchange of opinions and inspiring conversations between scientists, representatives of the state administration and organizations, as well as other attendees.

The second-day seminar for researchers on aging in the Baltic-Nordic region gathered more than ten participants from the scientific and academic staff of Rīga Stradiņš University, as well as listeners from other organizations. The seminar provided a detailed explanation of the methodology of the approach used in the comparative study and the development and aprobationof the Healthy Aging Index (HAI) in two countries with different databases. During the seminar, foreign guests enthusiastically participated in the St. John's celebration organized by RSU. In the continuation of the seminar, further forms of cooperation on promoting sustainable working life and joint project ideas were discussed.

Researchers from Rīga Stradiņš University, Uppsala University, University of Iceland, Vilnius University, Tallinn University and Texas Tech University, etc. participated in both days.
