A tribute to honour the best athletes, teams, and coaches from the past season at Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) took place on Wednesday, 12 June. Throughout the season, RSU athletes won a total of 52 medals in various competitions in sports such as powerlifting, swimming, aesthetic group gymnastics, basketball, and volleyball.

RSU athletes shone brightly during the 2023/2024 season, winning gold medals in both national competitions (the Latvian Universiade and championships) and international competitions (the Baltic Championships and the European Student Championships).

Women's Volleyball Team

The joint women's volleyball team of RSU and Murjāņi Sports Gymnasium won the gold medal at the Latvian Universiade, gold at the Latvian Championships, and the Baltic League Championships.

The team’s head coach Inguna Minusa, coach Inga Ikauniece, physiotherapist Luisa Dombrovska, strength coach Andris Eikens, statistician Toms Šķepasts and manager Kaspars Šķepasts. The golden girls: Megija Grundmane, Emīlija Tralmaka, Katrīna Ķetlere, Kristīna Iskorostenska, Anna Kovala, Beatrise Barone, Linda Šteinberga, Katrīna Struka, Karmena Struka, Elvita Dolotova, Grēta Jirgena, Alise Juršāne-Pinķe, Bonija Runce, Alvīne Krumholce, Laura Kristīne Vāvere, Kristīne Leskinoviča, Anastasija Postnova, Zaiga Kalvāne, Luīze Skudra, Katrīna Krustkalne, Monta Urbāne, Inita Gūtmane, Felicita Trokša, Samanta Leona, and team captain Agija Ankevica.

Thirteen players from the RSU/MSĢ team are members of the Latvian national women's volleyball team.

Men's Basketball Team

The men's basketball team, RSU/VEF Rīga, won gold medals at the Latvian Universiade this year. The team was coached by Krists Pīternieks, with strength coach Kaspars Reikmanis and physiotherapist Kārlis Kristiāns Dundurs. The members of the team include players Artūrs Vuciņš, Dāvis Matīss Žilde, Ginters Ansis Blumbergs, Justus Schuh, Ņikita Kuzņecovs, Pēteris Pinnis, Pēteris Salmiņš, Rihards Ginters, Rihards Ozoliņš, Rihards Rācenājs, Rihards Zariņš, Roberts Vēveris, Edgars Lācis, Māris Gulbis, and Kārlis Kaugurs.

Women's Basketball Team

The RSU women's basketball team earned award in 3x3 basketball, won the gold medal at the Latvian Universiade, and took home the silver medal at the Latvian Championships.

The team’s coach is Mārcis Pliens, strength coach Kaspars Reikmanis, physiotherapist Līga Folkmane-Eglīte. The players include Anita Megija Miķelsone, Paula Cirša, Hilda Dārta Snipe, Marta Blūma, Liza Čumika, Ieva Stefānija Tomiņa, Una Šteinharde, Elza Bieriņa, Zelma Mālmane, Alise Bruzinska, Jete Nulle, Beāte Feldmane, Aleksa Skudra, Liene Liše, and captain Luīze Šepte.

Powerlifting

Medal winners in powerlifting include Hugo Prauliņš (gold at the international SELL student games and silver at the Latvian Universiade in powerlifting); Olafs Ozoliņš (bronze at the Latvian Powerlifting Championships, gold at the Latvian Universiade in bench press and powerlifting), Reinis Ratnieks (gold at the Latvian Universiade in bench press, gold at the Latvian Championship in powerlifting, and gold at the European Student Cup in powerlifting).

Swimming

Swimmers from RSU brought home 18 medals this year! Among the award winners are Kristiāna Maskava-Pudāne, Elīna Beinere-Tjutjunova, Reinis Eduards Paulis, Francis Daniels Veģeris, Reinis Ričards Ivuškāns, and Zenons Beļskis.

Aesthetic Group Gymnastics

In aesthetic group gymnastics, the women's team won gold medals at the Latvian Championships and the Open Riga Championship. The team was coached by Maruta Hoferte and included Kristīne Škola, Hanna Hansone, Luīze Sviķe, Diāna Kļaviņa, Svetlana Lazareva, and Annika Hollmena.
