Outpatient Surgery Unit Opened at the Clinic of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery of the RSU Institute of Stomatology

An extended  outpatient surgery unit was opened at the Clinic of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery of the Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) Institute of Stomatology on 12 December. The newly opened unit will start working in January 2020.

This summer, the Institute of Stomatology obtained additional premises in the building at 20 Dzirciema Iela enabling it to extend the range of services and training provided by the institute. Over the next two months, the Institute of Stomatology renovated the 120m² large surgery unit at the Clinic of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

The new surgery unit houses two operating theatres and two recovery rooms with five beds. A total of 115,000 euros were invested in the renovation.

The outpatient surgery unit will offer the following procedures: dentoalveolar surgery, oral and maxillofacial soft tissue surgery, tooth extraction, jawbone reconstructive surgery, tooth replacement and other surgeries using the latest technologies.

The RSU Institute of Stomatology is a clinical training centre for prospective dental specialists. The training programmes have been upgraded to meet the standards and criteria of the best European universities. The Institute of Stomatology has established contact with significant international education centres of dental education, research and treatment. In 2003, the Institute of Stomatology was appointed an examination centre of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.

Medical residents can also undergo their training at the institute. The training facilities for students and medical residents are equipped with high-end dental equipment, a modern sterilisation system, new radiological technologies and a network of information technologies.

The RSU Institute of Stomatology has gathered the best clinical, pedagogical and scientific teaching staff in Latvian dentistry. It has established and reinforced clinics, provided state-of-the-art equipment and introduced the latest and most advanced technologies.
