About Study Course
Objective
To promote the development of the professional competence of students in the organisation and management of teaching and learning of swimming, taking into account the individual possibilities of students and conformity with the learning outcome to be achieved, as well as to enable students to acquire theoretical knowledge and practical skills in swimming and organising competitions of students with simplified or changed rules. To understand and use safety rules near and in the water.
Prerequisites
Swimming skill.
Learning outcomes
1. Will know the history and development of swimming in Latvia and worldwide.
2. Will know the methodology for teaching techniques of swimming types (teaching methods, study aids).
3. Will know and will be able to use formative, summative assessment and self-assessment in learning swimming exercises.
4. Able to demonstrate different swimming methods (back crawl, front crawl, breaststroke, dolphin) and applied swimming elements (diving, sidestroke, transportation of drowning person in the water), start and turns.
5. To practically plan, lead swimming exercises and assess their learning at all stages of education.
6. Ability to plan, lead an interdisciplinary and individualised learning process in various swimming exercises and games in accordance with all stages of education.
7. Ability to critically analyse and evaluate the pedagogical aids, methods, techniques and swimming aids used, and their compliance with the abilities of students and education goals in diverse health-promoting swimming exercises and games.
8. Ability to take responsibility for the process of classes and safety in the swimming pool.
9. Ability to establish clear performance and student growth assessment criteria and test methods when learning swimming exercises at all stages of education.
10. Ability to provide feedback in the assessment of both the student and their activities in swimming exercise activities.
11. Able to creatively choose study aids in learning swimming exercises by integrating health and safety content, other subject areas, transversal skills and values.
12. Able to identify security hazards and risks in different environments and situations while swimming, take preventive safety measures, choosing the most appropriate problem-solving strategies.
