The content of the study programme provides the versatile knowledge required by a sports specialist, points to the universal skills required by the profession as well as competences that include formulating and solving practical problems.

By studying in the Sports Coach subprogramme, our alumni acquire the qualification of Sports Coach. The trainer performs direct pedagogical or educational activity. In theoretical and practical training courses it is possible to acquire professional skills and skills in 35 training courses and more than 30 sports. The broad range of sports and training courses is provided by professional sector specialists and academic staff. Our alumni have the opportunity to test learning knowledge in qualification practice in a chosen sport.

Content and methods of studies

The content and methods of the study programme fully comply with the national standard of education. The content of the study is designed to enable the sports coach to plan training processes, to create a safe and supportive training environment. During studies it is possible to acquire study courses in which knowledge of anatomy, physiology, sports medicine, biomechanics, pedagogy and training theory is provided. Improvement of the content of study courses is carried out in cooperation with students, specialists in the field and in discussions with teaching staff during each semester.

Tasks of the programme

  • Provide dual career opportunities for high-end athletes by offering an individual study system
  • A student-centered study programme, which stimulates the motivation of students to continue their studies at a higher level of study, in bachelor programmes
  • Use various interactive teaching methods in practical classes, in cooperation with teaching staff
  • The overall knowledge gained during the placement can be used practically in different professional contexts

Job opportunities

Our alumni work as sports coaches at various sports schools, independently planning the training process for children, young people and adults with different fitness. They work for societies, foundations and, after studying, open private sports centres, clubs or schools. Many of the students already work in their chosen sport during their studies and supplement their knowledge during the study process. Students from all regions of Latvia attend the studies because the study process is commensurate with the workload.

Studies may continue in the RSU LASE Bachelor’s study programme 'Sports Science' in full-time face-to-face or part-time correspondence studies.
