The Ambassador of Canada visits Rīga Stradiņš University
On 10 April, the Ambassador of Canada, H. E. Brian Szwarc, visited Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) with his delegation to learn about the university’s development initiatives and to explore future collaboration opportunities between RSU and Canada — particularly in organising a course on military medicine, as well as in the fields of science and education.
During the visit, RSU Rector, Professor Aigars Petersons, and the university’s management presented RSU’s strategic directions. These included new master’s programmes — Digital Transformation in Medicine and Digital Strategies and Artificial Intelligence Management — as well as the university’s experience in organising military medicine courses for both local and international students.
The Ambassador of Canada expressed his gratitude to Latvia for the warm welcome extended to members of the Canadian Armed Forces stationed in the country. He noted that cooperation with RSU could serve as a valuable foundation for joint projects in science and innovation. The delegation also emphasised that military medicine courses are rare in Canadian universities, highlighting RSU’s potential as an important partner in sharing expertise in this field.
Currently, 16 students from Canada are studying at Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) — 12 in the Medicine programme and four in Dentistry. Between 2023 and 2025, four visiting professors from Canada have also been working at RSU.
At the end of the visit, the Ambassador met with Canadian students at RSU and expressed interest in their study experience in Latvia.
