As Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) has been conducting all studies remotely from 12 March, the defence of doctoral theses will likewise be held online this spring. RSU doctoral student and pneumonologist Dace Žentiņa will defend her doctoral thesis on 29 May, at 15:00, in an open online meeting of the Clinical Medicine Degree Committee using Zoom. RSU doctoral student and internal medicine and gastroenterology resident Vita Skuja will defend her thesis on 2 June, at 15:00.

The scientific supervisors of the doctoral theses by Dace Žentiņa, ‘The Diagnostic Value of Biochemical and Tumour Markers in the Differential Diagnosis of Pleural Effusions’ are RSU Professor Aivars Lejnieks and Associate Professor of the University of Latvia Arvils Krams.

Internal medicine and gastroenterology resident Vita Skuja will defend her doctoral thesis, ‘Inflammatory Bowel Disease Activity in Previously Hospitalised Patients with Extended Spectrum Beta-Lactamase Producing Enterobacteriaceae Presence in the Gut’ with RSU Professor Aivars Lejnieks and Professor Angelika Krūmiņa as scientific supervisors.

It is noteworthy that as a lecturer at the RSU Department of Internal Diseases in 2017, Vita Skuja received the RSU annual award in the category Doctoral Student of the Year. She is also one of nine young European specialists who has been included in the Young Talent Group of the United European Gastroenterology for two years.
