Students are Invited to Run for Student Union Council Elections
Autumn brings changes to the Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) Student Union – it is time for the annual council elections. From 26 October to 6 November RSU students can run for election and bring new ideas to the student organisation that represents the interests of the students.
The council is a platform for growth. You will gain an opportunity to:
- attend meetings and work groups;
- express your opinions;
- make decisions concerning amendments to rules and regulations;
- oversee the Student Union's budget and the work of the Council;
- elect student representatives (for example, faculty councillors or senators);
- and participate and organise various projects and events.
Like any other student, members of the council can express their ideas and make suggestions to improve the study process and environment of their own or other faculties.
The RSU Student Union consists of 36 elected members representing all faculties and the International Student Department. Only the students in the candidate's faculty or department can vote for that specific candidate. The number of mandates, or members who have the right to vote, is determined proportionally to the number of students in each faculty or department.
RSU Student Union Council mandates are divided as follows:
- International Student Department – 6
- Faculty of Medicine – 5
- Faculty of Public Health and Social Welfare – 5
- Faculty of Rehabilitation – 4
- Faculty of Law – 4
- Faculty of Communication – 4
- Faculty of European Studies – 3
- Faculty of Pharmacy – 2
- Faculty of Dentistry – 2
- Faculty of Residency – 1
