Objective

Theoretically and practically acquire knowledge and skills in group counselling in the field of art therapy; to improve group counselling methods in the group management process in various professional environments; to improve knowledge, skills and competence in organising and leading different types of groups for client/patient groups of different ages and with various problems.

Prerequisites

Personality and Developmental Psychology, Individual Counseling in Art Therapy and Psychodynamics, Evaluation Principles and Process in Art Therapy, Professional Development Group, Specialization I.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

Students describe the principles of group formation, leadership and development; analyzes and compares theoretical models of group counseling; characterizes the specifics, functions and limits of the art therapist's activities in different professional environments; knows the ethical issues of group management.

Skills

Establish contact with patient/client. Plan and carry out evaluations, incl. art based. Analyze the information collected during the evaluation. Integrate the information gathered and draw conclusions. Prepare an evaluation summary (initial evaluation form) of the results of the art-based evaluation and other documents relevant to the patient / client problem. Provide feedback to the patient/client or his/her guardian/parent on the outcome of the art-based assessment. Provide the leader and participants of a multi-professional or interdisciplinary team with information on the outcome of the art-based assessment. Agree with the patient/client on goals in art therapy. To create an art therapy strategy in accordance with the set goal. Implement the art therapy process. Carry out a mid-term evaluation of the art therapy process to check that the chosen strategy is fit for purpose. To evaluate the result of the art therapy process. Prepare a summary of the art therapy process and outcome and other documents relevant to patient/client issues. Conclude the art therapy process with the patient/client. Provide information on the art therapy process, results, and recommendations to the multidisciplinary or interdisciplinary team leader and participants. Integrate into multi-professional and interdisciplinary team work. Explain to your own and other professions your professional activities, goals and objectives, opportunities and limitations. Adhere to the code of professional ethics of an art therapist. Identify issues of professional ethics of an art therapist. To address the issues of professional ethics of an art therapist.

Competence

Using the acquired knowledge of group formation, management and development principles, students, according to the specific situation, client/patient needs and goals, independently develop an art therapy group work plan. In the form of group simulations and role play, students organize and lead an art therapy group session in one of the professional settings (health care, social or educational). By analyzing the skills of their group leader in the role play, they recognize their professional limitations and opportunities.
