Objective

Improve clinical thinking in pre-clinical studies by learning the basic principles and methods of occupational therapist assessment, intervention in pediatrics.

Prerequisites

Anatomy, Physiology, Basics of occupational therapy, Assessment methodology in occupational therapy, Interaction of person and environment to promote occupation, Classification and assessment of functioning, disability and health, Basics of psychology in professional work

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

Acquire knowledge about different aspects and contexts of child development. Will be able to characterize children activities, describe development of ones and explain the most typical restrictions, recognize the main theoretical approaches in pediatric OT and will be able to describe ones. Will be able to organize activity disfunction evaluation for children, will be able to characterize OT practice process and describe usage of separate therapeutic methods for children with activity disorder.

Skills

Will be able to evaluate and describe functional skills of a child, will use separate standartised OT assessment tools, to analyse restrictions and resources of carrying out activities for children. Will interpret evaluation results and plan therapy accordingly to activity disfunction of a child. Demonstrate in oversight therapeutical methods, document OT process in its different stages.

Competence

Using the acquired knowledge and skills about pediatric OT methods students will be able to:
• interpret and evaluate results;
• plan intervention according a child's disfunction;
• develop and use evidence based assessment and therapy;
• evaluate the effectiveness of treatment.
