RSU will hold topping out ceremony for new Pharmaceutical Study and Science Complex
With the completion of the construction of the rooftop rafters, the Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) Pharmaceutical Study and Science Complex has taken shape in Pārdaugava, at 21 Konsula iela. In order to celebrate the end of this phase of construction, the University is inviting the media to the topping out ceremony on Thursday, 26 August, at 11:00. The multi-storey building has a total area of 7151 m2 and will house modern study facilities and a world-class science centre, including a research laboratory for finished dosage forms. The project is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and it is planned that the construction will be completed in 2022.
The event will be attended by RSU Rector, Professor Aigars Pētersons, Head of the RSU Student Union, Paula Feldmane, Chairman of the UPB Management Board, Dainis Bērziņš and Chairman of the Board of UPB Group Construction Company “SIA Grotta” Ltd., Ainārs Leitēns.
The complex will include the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, the Department of Pharmacology and the Department of Applied Pharmacy, study facilities and laboratories for students, as well as a research laboratory for finished dosage forms, which is very important for the development of science.
The main construction work of the building’s structures, concreting the monolithic reinforced exterior walls, as well as the construction of the basement insulation have now been completed. An external, low-voltage and electricity network connection has been built, the construction of the external water supply, sewage and rainwater sewage networks, as well as landscaping works have been partially completed. The construction work of the heating main are currently ongoing, the aluminium facades and building's windows are being installed, and the construction of ventilation, water sewerage, heating networks inside the building, the construction of internal low-voltage networks and the interior finishing works of the building have been started.
The building will complement the RSU campus and will be one of the largest and most technically complex buildings in the university's 70-year history. The price for the construction is EUR 8,468,500 (excluding VAT), of which almost half is co-financed by the ERDF.

The facility is being developed as part of the co-financed Rīga Stradiņš University Pharmacy research infrastructure development at Rīga Stradiņš University (contract No 1.1.1.4/17/I/011) which is part of the specific support objective (SSO) Measure 1.1.1.4 Development of R&D Infrastructure in Smart Specialisation Areas and Strengthening of Institutional Capacity of Scientific Institutions and the co-financed project Improvement of the study environment at Rīga Stradiņš University (contract No 8.1.1.0/17/I/006) of the SSO 8.1.1 To Increase the Number of Study Programmes in Modernised STEM, Including Medical and Creative Industry.
