Project funding

Project realization
01.05.2022. - 30.04.2029.

Aim

To create new, easily accessible and usable data, as well as new methods and tools for chemical risk assessment. The PARC project will especially help to develop tools (instruments) for the identification of new, less hazardous substances that would be in keeping with the sustainable development approach.

Description

The project is designed to comply with the EU Chemicals Strategy of Sustainability and the European Green Deal, which aims to significantly reduce the amount of harmful substances for health and the environment. The PARC project has strong ambitions in the field of scientific collaboration, providing a unique opportunity for cooperation between different levels of risk assessment specialists.

By bringing together efforts on a national and European level, this project will optimise resources dedicated to chemical risk assessment and monitoring and accelerate the growth rate of the sector.

In addition, work is planned on topics such as endocrine disruptor assessment methods, the impact of various metals such as cadmium (Cd) and mercury (Hg) on human health, persistent organic pollutants and the differences in their levels in the environment and in the human population in different European regions.

As a research partnership, PARC builds on the structures and findings of previous projects, including the European Human Biomonitoring Initiative (HBM4EU).

Lead Partner

The partnership is coordinated by ANSES, the French authority for food safety, environmental protection, and occupational health.

Project Partners

200 partners from 28 countries are involved in the PARC project, including Latvia, as well as three EU agencies: the European Environment Agency (EEA), the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA), and the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA).

The project brings together partners all across Europe, including European and national risk assessment agencies, universities, and national research organisations, as well as 5 directorates: General of the European Commission (DG-RTD, DG-GROW, DG-ENV, DG-SANTE and JRC) and the Ministries from the participating countries who contribute to PARC management and project performance monitoring.
