Objective

To create a general idea about the science of sports psychology and the psychological aspects of sports, to create an understanding of the emotional, cognitive and personality development of an individual at different age stages and aspects affecting development. Deepen knowledge about communication and means of communication in a professional environment. Develop skills in conversation with the client, identify the client's main problems, learn the basic skills of motivation using the principles of motivational interviewing. Recognize and understand client types and motivations for lifestyle change. Recognize the signs of conflict, assess the significance of the conflict and apply the skills to resolve it.

Prerequisites

High school level knowledge in social studies.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

Students describe psychology as a science and its main tasks, understand the importance of psychology in sports and working with athletes. Knows the main concepts of personality development and stages of development. Understands the importance of emotional and cognitive aspects in personality development. Understands the role of goal setting and motivation in sport. Describes the communication components that are the basis for establishing and maintaining contact with the client, recognizes and understands the client's personality types and motives for lifestyle changes. Identifies the client's main problems. Defines the signs of conflict.

Skills

Analyzes personality development, cognitive processes, leadership and other aspects of psychology in sports and sports psychology research.
Uses active listening, professionally conducts the conversation with the client, as well as conducts the motivational interview. Recognizes the client's health behavior change process and motivates the client to solve problems and achieve goals. Uses conflict resolution skills.

Competence

Students understand the connection between personality development and physical abilities, adjust communication and motivational skills according to the level of development and abilities to increase the quality of life and physical activity. Differentiates communication with different customer groups, evaluates the customer's motivation and the need to use the motivational interview. Uses active listening and motivational skills, according to the client's health behavior change process.
