Objective

At the end of the course the students will have gained knowledge of diagnosis and treatment of inflammatory diseases and injuries in maxillofacial region.

Prerequisites

To start study course (or semester) all previous assessments according to Study plan (D1) should be successfully passed.
Anatomy, pathophysiology, general and special pathology, general surgery, diagnostic radiology, internal diseases with propaedeutics, pharmacology, topographic anatomy of oral and maxillofacial region, oral surgery, emergency care.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

As a result of the study course, the student will be able to present basic knowledge about the types of inflammatory diseases and injuries of the oral and maxillofacial region, the mechanisms of their occurrence, principles of diagnosis and treatment.

Skills

Strengthened local and general examination skills of patients (palpation, auscultation). As a result of the study course, students will be able to collect a targeted anamnesis and clinically examine a patient with inflammation and trauma of the oral and maxillofacial region, make a temporary diagnosis, send for X-ray and other additional examinations, interpret X-ray and laboratory examinations, determine treatment location. In case of injuries, provide emergency care and impose temporary immobilization, refer the patient for specialized treatment to an appropriate institution.
Will be able to make intraoral incisions and prescribe medical therapy.

Competence

Will be competent to use acquired knowledge about injuries and inflammatory processes in the oral and maxillofacial region, to formulate diagnoses and differentiate from other diseases. Able to analyze examination data and evaluate the patient's treatment options in general dental practice, to provide treatment as needed. Demonstrates the principle of emergency care, performs temporary immobilization, prescribe medical therapy. Able to assess the need and refer the patient for further treatment to a specialist.. The students will recognize the necessity for lifelong learning.
