Objective

Provide an introduction to the basic principles of rigid orthotics. Provide a basic understanding of the historic origins of the process and the development of technological application. Introduce to the system of orthotic classification and its historic background. Teach to distinguish types of orthoses by their anatomical features. Provide theoretical information about technological specifics of the production of orthoses, specific components and it functional differences. Provide knowledge about specific illnesses that have been treated or controlled by orthoses.

Prerequisites

Anatomy, Physics, Materials and Processing, Introduction to the Profession, Physiology, Biology.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

Understanding of the history of orthotics, anatomical classification, principles of production and clinical case analysis. Characterization of rigid orthosis functions. Recognition of the functional separation of rigid orthosis. Knowledge of materials used in the manufacture of rigid orthosis.

Skills

Ability to explain the basic principles of orthotic production and apply them in an actual technological process.

Competence

Ability to explain the principles of orthotic application with various illnesses and provide analysis of clinical cases.
