About Study Course
Objective
Provide students with knowledge of main types of pain, mechanisms of pain development and treatment options.
Prerequisites
Basic knowledge of biology, anatomy and physiology, biochemistry, pharmacology, psychiatry, psychotherapy and clinical disciplines.
Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the study course, students will be able to:
• understand and describe the main mechanisms of pain development;
• understand the main types and causes of pain and their biological meaning;
• assess the complaints of pain patients, their role and impact in the clinical practice.
The student will be able to:
• examine and evaluate symptoms of pain patients and their needs at different stages of care;
• identify the main types of pain and their causes in various clinical situations;
• choose the most appropriate therapeutic options;
• explain the pain mechanisms and therapeutic targets to patients, their relatives and care providers.
Students will be able to:
• take part in planning of patient care at different stages of the disease;
• prescribe relevant therapy to an individual patient on the basis of a biopsychosocial approach in cooperation with other medical professionals;
• estimate short-term and long-term effects of pain therapy and solve prognostic tasks;
• implement health promotion measures, prevention and early detection of problems.
