Objective

To introduce students with the Pilates method, to promote the formation of practical skills and abilities in the implementation of the elements.

Prerequisites

Anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, gymnastics and terminology.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

1.As a result of mastering the study course, students will have acquired following knowledge:
• define the Pilates exercise system;
• Pilates history and benefits;
• explain the Pilates exercise technique and the role of the "Powerhouse";
• define in the basic principles of the Pilates method.

Skills

1.As a result of the study course the student will be able to:
• to execute the Pilates basic exercises properly;
• use Pilates exercises for health promotion;
• variate Pilates exercises for different purposes;
• choose and implement Pilates exercises for themselves by applying Pilates principles.

Competence

1.Using the acquired knowledge and skills, students will be able to evaluate the proper Pilates exercise technique and the need to use it to improve health and physical fitness level, as well as correctly execute Pilates basic movements and their modifications by using Pilates basic principles of motion. The student must know and understand the theory, tasks and objectives of the Pilates exercise system.
