Objective

Raise awareness of the interactions between social policy formation and the factors affecting it and learn the current social policy activities in Latvia and the European Union.

Prerequisites

On the structure of the Latvian social security system.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

Understand the processes of social policy in Latvia, introduction of social policy at the level of the State and local governments; describe the social problems that Latvia's social policy faces in the 21st century; formulate the responsibilities of the Republic of Latvia in the field of social policy in accordance with the priority directions of the European Union.

Skills

Define and use the concepts discussed in the lectures within the context of social policy in Latvia; analyse social policy research and statistics; distinguish between different types of social policy, determine how they affect Latvia's social policy.

Competence

Use the acquired knowledge in practice in the characterisation of social policy and in the development of the Semester Paper and the Final Thesis.
