Applications Open for Annual International Student Conference at RSU
In the spring of 2023, students at Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) will be organising a comprehensive two-day conference, the International Student Conference Health and Social Sciences (RSU ISC 2023). This will be the conference’s 73rd iteration and the ninth time that it will be an international event.
Over the years, it has grown to become the largest student event in the Baltics, attracting thousands of participants. Last year, more than 300 students presented their research papers at the conference and the participants represented 31 countries. The event will take place on 27-28 March 2023, and it will open the marathon of conferences that are part of RSU Research Week.
RSU ISC 2023 will feature 23 thematic sessions with several events running in parallel, among them case studies and poster presentations, as well as more than 20 practical workshops and masterclasses.
In the field of healthcare, young researchers will work in areas such as anaesthesiology, biochemistry, pharmacy, internal medicine, neurology, oncology, infectious diseases, public health, and many others. Two new sections have been introduced this year: one on general practice and family medicine, primary and palliative care, and the other on digital medicine and simulation technologies in medicine. In addition, there will be four social sciences sections: political science, law, communication, and economics and business. This year, the presentations will be evaluated by an international jury made up of 170 representatives.
‘The conference will give new scientific insights, amazing keynote speakers, masterclasses, and practical workshops to try something new and improve existing skills.
RSU ISC aims to encourage students' first steps in research as well as networking with international students and the universities and research institutes that they represent.
But at the same time, you need to be able to relax as well as work hard, which is why RSU ISC also includes a cultural programme with guided tours, visits, and other events,’ explains Klāvs Putenis, Head of the Conference Organising Committee. ‘Students are unstoppable despite the pandemic, which has limited research opportunities in various ways – they have expressed great interest even during these years of remote events,’ says Putenis, referring to the past three years when the conference was held online.
Participation in the event is free for RSU students. The conference will be held in a hybrid format - both face-to-face and online.

RSU ISC 2023 will take place during RSU Research Week. In total, RSU will host five international conferences from 27 to 31 March. Topics will range from health care and medicine to social sciences. Research Week events will bring together scientists, students, cooperation partners, and representatives of public administration and non-governmental organisations, including diaspora organisations. RSU International Research Week is held every two years – the previous series of conferences in 2021 gathered around 6,500 participants from 45 countries with more than 1,300 research papers presented.
