Live: Inauguration Ceremony for Rector's Second Term in Office

The inauguration ceremony for the Rector of Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU), Professor Aigars Pētersons’ second term in office is being held in the presence of a wide circle of the university’s staff and guests on Friday, 31 March. Prof. Pētersons was re-elected as Rector on 1 January 2023 and will remain in office until the end of 2027. He was re-elected by a unanimous vote of the members of the Constituent Assembly on 23 November 2022.

This year, the elections for rector were held for the first time according to the new procedure laid down in the Law on Higher Education Institutions - the RSU Council organised the call for candidates, and the members of the Constituent Assembly elected the rector. Thus, the ceremony, hosted by Mārtiņš Daugulis, was opened by Chairman of the RSU Council Reinis Bērziņš, who together with the Chair of the Constituent Assembly, Professor Ilze Gropis, honoured Prof. Pētersons on his appointment. 

The inauguration ceremony will bring together students, faculty, management, and administrative staff, representatives of the RSU Council and Constituent Assembly, the government, scientific institutions, as well as other guests.

At the ceremony, the President of the RSU Constituent Assembly, Prof. Ilze Grope, will read the assembly's decision on the election of the Rector. The Chairman of the RSU Council Reinis Bērziņš will present the Rector with the chain of office, after which prof. Pētersons will take the solemn oath of office.

After the official congratulatory remarks, the guests will be able to enjoy a short concert programme by pianist Reinis Zariņš, followed by the informal part of the event in the University Canteen.
