In memoriam Arturs Sočņevs (16 May 1947 – 27 January 2025)
We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of former Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) lecturer and esteemed immunologist, Dr. Arturs Sočņevs, on 27 January at the age of 77.
Dr. Sočņevs was born in Riga on 16 May 1947. He graduated from the Rīga Medical Institute (now RSU) and began his long-standing career at the University in 1973, being appointed professor in 1990. From 1973, he also served as a research associate at the Central Research Laboratory of the Rīga Medical Institute, becoming its head in 1979.

Dr. Sočņevs was the Director of the Institute of Immunology and served as President of the Latvian Association of Immunologists.
A dedicated scientist, he devoted much of his life to advancing the fields of antigenic immunogenetics and immunological reactions in transplantology.
