In memoriam Beatrise Silvija Blauberga (25 October 1929 – 25 January 2025)
The Department of Paediatrics at the RSU Faculty of Medicine is deeply saddened to announce the passing of our colleague, Beatrise Silvija Blauberga. She was an outstanding doctor, colleague, teacher, and person with a big heart. Blauberga dedicated her life and work to medicine and public health, having a profound and lasting influence on the fields of paediatrics and infectious diseases in Latvia.
Beatrise Silvija Blauberga was born in Riga into a family of a baker and a private piano teacher. She began her schooling at Riga Secondary School No. 2, graduating with a silver medal. She also studied at the Piano Department of the Jāzeps Mediņš Music School but ultimately felt her true calling in medicine, enrolling at the Medical Faculty of the State University of Latvia. After graduating, she worked as a paediatric infectiologist at Aknīste District Hospital, Ilūkste, and Latvian Basin Central Hospital. From 1960 until her well-deserved retirement in 1992, she worked at the Republican Children's Clinical Hospital, becoming one of the leading specialists in her field.
In addition to her work at the hospital, Blauberga was appointed Chief Paediatric Infectiologist at the Ministry of Health of the Latvian SSR in 1971. In 1973, she began working at the Riga Medical Institute, where she became a highly respected and well-liked lecturer, admired not only by students but also by fellow doctors. She conducted specialist qualification courses for doctors, developed teaching materials, and always generously shared her knowledge with colleagues.
Dr. Blauberga’s life was not only rich in professional achievements and dedication to her young patients, but also in the warmth, humanity, and light she shared with all who knew her. She was a doctor who listened, a teacher who inspired, and a colleague who supported. She knew how to combine deep professionalism with compassion, always finding time for a kind word and a heartfelt conversation. Her presence brought peace and reassurance, offering the certainty that, with patience, knowledge, and a love for her work, she could help even in the most challenging situations. Her guidance and example have shaped generations – from the students she taught, to the colleagues she worked alongside, to the patients who felt safe in her care. Her warm voice, radiant smile, and life wisdom will remain in our memories forever.
Our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time. May the memory of her selfless life and the gratitude we feel for her contributions remain with us forever.
