On 20 November, the management of Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) congratulated those colleagues whose achievements and outstanding accomplishments have been recognised and appreciated at the national level by awarding the Order of the Three Stars, the Cabinet of Ministers and the Ministry of Health Letters of Commendation, the Ministry of Interior awards and the Latvian National Armed Forces Certificates of Recognition. Our colleagues have received acknowledgement for their dedication, professionalism and outstanding work. 

‘The last year was a productive one for the RSU community - our colleagues received many national level highest decorations. Everyone has its own motivation to work and achieve excellence - whether it is achievements in academic work, science, or work for the benefit of society. It is a great honour for me to congratulate all of you – those who bring the RSU's good name in the Latvian society’, emphasised RSU Rector Prof. Aigars Pētersons.

Prof. Andrejs Vilks of the RSU Faculty of Social Sciences was awarded the Golden Honour of the Ministry of Interior for his active involvement and support in the implementation of the education policy in the home affairs and for ensuring the study process of the Internal Security Academy consortium. For the significant contribution to the promotion of education of law enforcement personnel, the Ministry of Interior Certificate of Recognition was awarded to Prof. Uldis Ķinis of the RSU Faculty of Social Sciences. Both awards were presented by the State Secretary of the Ministry of Interior Dmitrijs Trofimovs.

The National Armed Forces Commander’s award - the Certificate of Recognition was presented to Inga Kjakste, Head of Simulation Resource Management at RSU Medical Education Technology Centre, and Raimonds Mihaļovs, Simulation Instructor in Military Medicine at the RSU Medical Education Technology Centre.

Afterwards the Rector presented the Letters of Congratulation to the recipients of the Order of the Three Stars - Vilnis Sosārs, Head of Palliative Care Department at the Riga East University Biķernieki Hospital, Lecturer at the RSU Department of Internal Diseases, and Anda Jansone, Chair of the Board of the Riga Children's Palliative Care Society, paediatrician, lecturer at RSU. 

The Ministry of Health Letter of Commendation was awarded by the Rector to Assoc. prof. Valda Staņēviča of the RSU Department of Paediatrics at the Faculty of Medicine. 

In the award ceremony, Egita Pole, the recipient of the Cabinet of Ministers Letter of Commendation, Director of State Blood Donor Centre, Head of Clinical Practice at the RSU Faculty of Medicine, was also congratulated. 

The ceremony closed with the Rector’s congratulations to the recipients of the Ministry of Health Letters of Commendation and Gratitude: 

  • Prof. Oskars Kalējs, Board Member of the Latvian Cardiology Society at the Pauls Stradiņš Clinical University Hospital, Cardiologist, Lead Researcher and Professor at the RSU Department of Internal Diseases (Letter of Commendation); 
  • Assoc. prof. Dzintra Kažoka, Study Process Coordinator at the Department of Morphology at the Institute of Anatomy and Anthropology (Letter of Commendation); 
  • Anda Ķīvīte-Urtāne, Lecturer at the Department of Public Health and Epidemiology, Director of the Institute of Public Health, Lead Researcher and Lead Expert of the Ministry of Health in Public Health Education (Letter of Commendation); 
  • Assoc. prof. Dins Šmits, RSU Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs (Letter of Gratitude).
