The Latvian Academy of Sciences (LAS) is composed of Full Members (Academicians), Honorary Members, Corresponding Members, and Foreign Members. The number of members, as well as the procedure for nominating and discussing candidates within the scientific community, are outlined in the LAS Statutes.
Full Members of the LAS retain the title of Academician for life. Eminent Latvian scientists under the age of 70 may be elected as Full Members, but their total number may not exceed 100. Corresponding Members are elected from among scientists of recognised standing in Latvia within their respective fields, who are qualified to represent their discipline, provide expertise in scientific works, and contribute to the development of their specialised area.
