“OnBoard Med” project partners meet in Åland Islands
The fourth OnBoard-Med (Harmonization of on Board Medical Treatment, Occupational Safety and Emergency Skills in Baltic Sea Shipping) project meeting was organised by the project’s lead partners - Turku University of Applied Sciences and Åland University of Applied Sciences in the Åland Islands from 22 - 25 May. The project has five partners, among them the Department of Nursing and Midwifery at the RSU Faculty of Public Health and Social Welfare.
The project meeting started with a welcome address by rector of Åland University of Applied Sciences Jonas Waller who greeted participants and gave a short presentation about the university. Suvi Kivela from Turku University of Applied Sciences informed of the latest project developments, work group leaders shared current achievements in the development of study courses and further tasks and project participants could participate in a demonstration of simulators used in maritime education. The first day of the meeting ended with a discussion panel on the process of effective learning, forms and methods used and the relevance of the study materials to study objectives and the set tasks.
The second day of the meeting of cooperation partners was devoted to leadership, study project development and communication in work groups, addressing different budgetary issues, the setting of goals and tasks for the implementation of study courses, discussion relating to the content of student pilot course assessment forms and the content of the project update newsletter. The second day ended with a meeting of the steering group where participants presented the latest activities of their respective institutions in study course development and testing, lead partners informed of the assignments that have been completed in the third stage and plans for the fourth project implementation stage and shared information on pilot courses, their outcomes and the necessary improvements to study courses.
On the third day of the meeting the participants attended a conference devoted to Maritime Day at which the project lead partners from Turku University of Applied Sciences presented the OnBoard-Med project.
The next project meeting is scheduled for 25 – 27 September and will be organised in Rīga by Rīga Stradiņš University.
