International Cooperation

On 5 July representatives from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU Amsterdam) visited Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) to discuss opportunities for collaboration. This visit coincided with VU Amsterdam Symphony Orchestra’s Latvian concert tour, a cultural gift by the Kingdom of the Netherlands in celebration of Latvia’s Centenary.

During the visit to RSU, various forms of collaboration were explored, including student mobilities, guest-lecturing, university staff exchanges, summer schools, international weeks and others.

“I am very delighted about the opportunity to exchange experience with colleagues from VU Amsterdam, a European university that offers a broad range of study and research possibilities in diverse healthcare and social science disciplines. This university approaches education from an inter-disciplinary perspective that strongly relies on the continuous presence of latest research findings in the study process,” said Baiba Pētersone, director of RSU’s International Department (pictured in the centre).

VU Amsterdam is a state-funded university that was founded in 1880. It is an internationally-renowned institution of higher education and research that offers studies in Dutch and English at various levels of higher education. Currently more than 20,000 students are enrolled at VU Amsterdam. The University’s Faculty of Medicine is among TOP50 medical schools in various international rankings.

RSU already collaborates with other Dutch universities within the European Commission’s Erasmus+ programme. Many degree-seeking students from the Netherlands also study at RSU.
