Medical staff improve skills in minimally invasive paediatric surgery
On 12 September, a study course in minimally invasive (laparoscopic) paediatric surgery were held in the clinical skills centre Doctors Safe Train, jointly established by Rīga Stradiņš University and the Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies. The event gathered 17 participants: physicians, medical residents, operating room nurses, students from RSU Red Cross Medical College and veterinarians.
Course attendees had the opportunity to improve their skills in laparoscopic paediatric surgery under conditions that simulate real-life scenarios. They were able to practice cholecystectomy, fundoplication, splenectomy and other operations, as well as practice suturing and surgical thread binding. Within the theoretical part, the participants attended lectures on indications and ergonomics, as well as peculiarities in paediatric laparoscopic surgery. Other topics, such as the application of laparoscopy in oncology and thoracic surgery were also discussed during the course.
