Free digital skills and innovations masterclass programme for healthcare professionals and start-ups

With the aim to promote the development of digital skills in the healthcare sector, Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) in partnership with Riga TechGirls will provide a free digital skills and innovations masterclass programme Cilvēcīgi par tehnoloģijām (Technology Made Human). The masterclass is meant for healthcare professionals, representatives of start-ups, and anyone who wants to work in this sector in the future. The online programme consists of 24 theoretical sessions and 4 practical sessions over the course of three months and is an opportunity to improve knowledge of the use of different tools and technologies in healthcare and to gain useful skills for everyday use.

The masterclass programme is organised with the financial support of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology - Health Knowledge and Innovation Community (EIT Health) to provide free digital skills training to the healthcare sector in Latvia. It is designed to be worthwhile both for new participants as well as for those who have already successfully completed a similar programme last year. The lecturers will also include a number of RSU lecturers who will share their experience and knowledge.

Participants will have the possibility to study in five thematic modules: patient experience and communication, data and data security, digital tools in healthcare, innovation in healthcare, and a module dedicated to healthcare start-ups and innovators.

The programme will provide participants with an opportunity to improve practical digital skills and understanding of topics such as design thinking and service design, user-centred web development, personal data security, electronic documentation and data standards, data analytics and processing, cloud information management and data storage, etc.

The Latvian language programme will run from 10 September to 28 November online on YouTube and on the Cilvēcīgi par tehnoloģijām website. Four practical sessions will focus on a specific tool or topic and will include hands-on exercises with mentors.

RSU and the EIT Health RIS Hub in Latvia value the partnership with Riga TechGirls, as their experience in promoting digital skills is essential to supporting healthcare professionals and innovators. We believe that this programme, powered by EIT Health, will bring added value to both healthcare professionals and start-ups by fostering digital skills, innovation, and collaboration between different stakeholders in the healthcare system. We hope that in the long-term, the learning and interaction between industry professionals and start-ups within this programme will improve patient-centred care and service quality, as well as lead to new innovations in healthcare. We anticipate that the alumni networking event will foster continued communication and collaboration between professionals and start-ups.
