Mārtiņš Daugulis, lecturer at the Department of Political Science, has become outside counsel to the Prime Minister
Journalist Mārtiņš Daugulis is a lecturer at the Department of Political Science of the Faculty of European Studies at Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU). He is the head of the Politics and Political Communication study programme, a political scientist and a researcher at the Latvian Institute of International Affairs. Daugulis has just been appointed as outside counsel on Sustainable Policy Affairs to the Prime Minister of Latvia, Krišjānis Kariņš (JV).
Daugulis explains that he will focus on the successful implementation of the government's action plan for sustainable policies and development.
‘The government's action plan contains many challenges that need to be tackled politically, and it is essential to identify which tasks should be prioritised considering the budgetary limitations, as well as their impact on the sustainable development of the country. I am delighted that the Prime Minister is engaging academics in developing high quality long-term policies. My main challenges in this role will be to find the best solutions for reducing administrative burdens and social exclusion and to implement better regulations.’
