It was conducted by the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT). During the course 12 RSU lecturers were trained to become NAEMT instructors. The Prehospital Trauma Life Support training course is recognized around the world as the leading experience-based training course for prehospital emergency trauma care. The course was developed in 1991 by NAEMT in cooperation with the American College of Surgeons' Committee on Trauma and has since then been introduced in Europe and in the world.

NAEMT Prehospital Trauma Life Support Board Member and instructor Dr. Jean-Cyrille Pitteloud (Bern, Switzerland) and instructor Dr. Roxolana Horbowyj (Maryland, USA) conducted the training course at RSU. Physicians should be able to provide first aid following international guidelines in a quick and efficient way to patients with severe trauma. It is therefore essential for prospective medical practitioners to acquire simulation-based skills in order to be able to immediately assess severely injured patients (the so called ABCDE algorithm) and provide emergency treatment while they are still studying at the university.
