RSU signs memorandum of understanding with one of the largest universities in Italy
A memorandum of understanding (MOU) was signed at Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) between RSU and Vita-Salute San Raffaele University and San Raffaele Hospital in Italy on Friday, 9 June.
The MOU was signed by the RSU Rector Prof. Aigars Pētersons and Paolo Rotelli, President of the San Donato Hospital Group of San Raffaele University. The Memorandum aims to strengthen the cooperation in clinical studies and study placements, resident and doctoral studies, exchange of lecturers and students, as well as research, joint projects and training courses.
‘RSU is a research university open to international cooperation and therefore sees a wide range of opportunities for cooperation with Italian partners in student exchange, lecturer mobility, research and other areas.
Our university has already established a close cooperation with our peers in Italian clinics, we are therefore confident that the signed memorandum will soon be followed by new activities and accomplishments,’
explained RSU Rector Prof. Aigars Pētersons. He continued by giving a presentation about the study programmes offered at RSU, the University’s achievements in research and cooperation with leading Italian clinics.
Paolo Rotelli said that the university he represents, San Raffaele University, is one of the largest in Italy.
‘Our work together does not start from scratch, as we have already implemented several student exchange programmes. However, we need to take the next step by thinking, for example, about academic staff visits and developing joint research projects.’
said the leader of the Italian delegation.
RSU has been cooperating closely with San Raffaele University for several years. The International Department has already organised student exchanges within the Erasmus+ programme. The signed MOU will open new opportunities for students, lecturers and researchers.
A large delegation of leading officials and specialists from San Raffaele University Hospital arrived in Latvia, including heads and experts from research units and several medical specialities. During their visit, the Italian delegation and RSU researchers learned about the research areas of both institutions and identified common research interests, in particular in medical fields such as oncology, paediatrics, immunology, genetics, surgery and internal medicine.
