The rankings are based on how well the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) have been implemented and RSU has improved its position in several categories.

In the Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions category, RSU has moved up 100 places and now ranks 201-300. The University’s position in the Partnership for the Goals category has significantly increased, now placing 201-300 (up from 401-600 in 2023).

‘We are pleased that our cooperation with the world's leading universities, international research centres and other foreign and Latvian partners has been recognised in terms of our efforts to achieve our sustainability goals.

RSU has almost two dozen clinical study centres abroad now. Our researchers are involved in a wide range of international research in medical and social sciences. Collaboration has always been and will remain a priority for RSU, which is reflected in the University's strategy,’ emphasises RSU Rector Prof. Aigars Pētersons.

RSU's ranking in the Gender Equality category remains consistently high, placing 101-200 among the top universities in the world. This category covers the University's policy on gender equality.

The THE Impact Rankings were first published in 2019. The ranking evaluates universities' impact on the environment, economy, and society. It provides an opportunity to determine each university's overall position as well as its rankings in specific sustainable development goals. The number of universities that are evaluated increases annually, with 2,152 universities included in the THE Impact Rankings 2024.
