New premises of RSU Clinic and Department of Psychosomatic Medicine and Psychotherapy opened
On 2 November Rīga Stradiņš University Clinic and Department of Psychosomatic Medicine and Psychotherapy opened their new premises at 30 Kristapa Street, Riga. At the same time the Head of the Clinic and the Department, Professor Gunta Ancāne celebrated the presentation of her new book "For Parents. About Me and the Children: Findings and Suggestions on How to Raise a Healthy and Happy Child".
The RSU Clinic and Department of Psychosomatic Medicine and Psychotherapy has been in the process of positive changes, moving from their previous premises at 23 Kapseļu Street to new, more spacious and more accessible premises at 30 Kristapa Street.
These are not just new premises but a greater opportunity for achievements in research, teaching of students and work with patients. Comparing data for the first half of this year with the same period the previous year, it is obvious that the number of individual therapy visits to the clinic has increased by 57 %. This shows that the residents of Latvia are becoming more aware of the value of their emotional health and have become wise to seek the help of a physician psychotherapist to improve their physical health and, at the same time, to get rid of emotional complexes in order to fulfil the untapped potential of their life. Stereotyping, that going to a psychotherapist is associated with a disease, an inability to function, is decreasing.
In her book for parents, Professor Gunta Ancāne describes self-esteem as the foundation of happiness; she writes also how to build a child’s self-esteem and their ability to take responsibility for their decisions; where defiance is encountered in a child - how to explain it, how to cope with it and other important topics on how to raise a happy child.
RSU Rector Professor Jānis Gardovskis, Minister for Health Anda Čakša and President of the joint stock company “Latvijas Valsts meži” Roberts Strīpnieks also attended the opening of the Clinic’s new premises and the Professor’s book.
