Participate in the 2021 RSU International Student Conference!

On Monday, 22 March, Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) will launch Research Week 2021 (RW2021) - a marathon of five international conferences online. Researchers from more than 45 countries will be attending the conferences. RW2021 will open with the 7th International Student Conference (ISC) Health and Social Science, which will be held on 22-23 March and cover global trends in medicine, healthcare and social sciences. Over the years, ISC has grown to become one of the largest student conferences in Northern Europe. Last year, the conference gathered more than 3,000 participants.

This year, the conference is scheduled to take place online for the second time due to the pandemic. More than 400 students from 30 countries will present their scientific achievements at the conference, according to the organisers from the RSU Student Union. These presentations will be evaluated by an international jury made up of 120 representatives.

At the opening event, Dr. Uldis Mitenbergs, the World Health Organization's Latvian representative and Head of Country Office Latvia, will speak about the impact of the pandemic on the future of health care. Evgeny Solomonov, a Doctor of Robotic Surgery from the Ziv Medical Center in Israel, will speak about the impact of future medicine on our day-to-day lives. The event will be closed by Halliki Harro-Loit, a professor in journalism from the University of Tartu, who will be addressing the freedom of expression.

Conference attendants will have access to more than 20 different workshops over the course of two days, among them ones on 3D dental implant planning and lumbar puncture in neurology. For some of the masterclasses, participants will be sent a parcel will materials they will need to participate fully in the workshop. At the same time, organisers also invite anyone who’s interested to attend non-academic master-classes on psychological tips that can be used when working with patients, awareness practices, self-motivation tools, the history of coffee, etc. Signing up for the free workshops will be open until the evening of 17 March.

The hackathon V*at is R*eal is scheduled to take place in parallel to the conference. The aim of the hackathon is to promote media literacy by using virtual assistant software tools. Students from RSU as well as from other universities studying in various fields, including journalism and communication sciences as well as public health and medicine, are welcome to participate in the conference. Participants will learn about virtual technologies and media literacy, develop critical thinking skills, and as a result and of working together with experienced mentors they will learn to develop new media literacy tools. The RSU ISC was warmed up by entrepreneur and productivity coach Stoyan Yankov on 16 March at 19:00. Yankov has advised more than 200 teams using the PERFORM methodology. He has presented in more than 25 countries and has shared the stage with such grands as David Allen, the author of the book Getting Things Done, Guy Kawasaki, Silicon Valley venture capitalist, and others.
