A while ago, Žaneta’s mother-in-law – although older, but otherwise perfectly healthy – collapsed suddenly in her apartment. A clot had entered the blood vessels in the brain, causing rapid cell death or, in short, a stroke. When her mother-in-law was discharged from the hospital and it became clear that she would be bedridden for the rest of her life, a desperate search for information began. What rehabilitation process should be used? How should the home environment be adapted? What benefits and social security is available?
The Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) Medical Education Technology Centre (METC) held their first international virtual clinical simulation in mid-October. During the virtual simulation students, residents and doctors from RSU, the University of Leicester (UK) and Yale Medical School (USA) played out a scenario to treat a six-year-old patient with pneumonia andsepsis, or blood poisoning, resulting in severe complications.
Additional epidemiological safety measures will be introduced at Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) between 9 and 23 November 2020 in order to reduce the health risks to RSU students, staff and guests, as well as the risk to the continuity of research and scientific activity at RSU.
For the period of 9 to 23 November, the study process will take place remotely, with the following exceptions:

On Thursday, 15 October, the Head of the Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) Department of Orthopaedics Prof. Andris Jumtiņš was awarded the Pauls Stradiņš Award for outstanding contribution to the development of orthopaedics in Latvia. This award is the highest honour in surgery in Latvia.
The laudatio was given by Asst. Prof. Silvestris Zēbolds from the RSU Department of Orthopaedics, followed by an academic speech on the Art of Orthopaedics by Prof. Andris Jumtiņš.
Autumn brings changes to the Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) Student Union – it is time for the annual council elections. From 26 October to 6 November RSU students can run for election and bring new ideas to the student organisation that represents the interests of the students.
An online seminar 'Translational medicine – from the molecule to the patient', organised by EATRIS-LV, will take place on 24 November.
