On 9 November the 5th Conference on Rare Diseases will be held in the RSU Great Hall, organised by the Latvian Rare Diseases Specialists' Association and the Department of Internal Diseases at the RSU Faculty of Medicine.
The aim of the conference is to provide current and future specialists with theoretical and practical knowledge on rare diseases, their diagnosis and treatment options.
The deadline for abstract submission for the 2019 RSU International Conference to be held from 1 to 3 April, 2019 is 25 January.
The theme of this year's conference is Knowledge for Use in Practice, with a focus on heart and vascular health, oncology and haematology, women's and children's health, infectious diseases, mental health and neurosciences, dentistry and pharmacy. We invite academic staff and researchers to submit abstracts, and share their knowledge in medicine, healthcare and social sciences!
On 18 and 19 October, social anthropologists from Rīga Stradiņš University, with assistance from the Baltic-German University Liaison Office, in conjuction with the Max Planck Institute for Social Anthropology and the Latvian Association of Anthropologists is organising an international conference titled "Tracing Informality in Southeast and Northeast Europe: Anthropological Perspectives".
The conference will be held in English. Participation is free.
Professor Mario Giorgi of the University of Pisa, Italy, will lecture on the subject of pharmacokinetics on 1 and 2 November. Professor Giorgi is a researcher in the fields of Veterinary Pharmacology, Pharmacokinetics and Bioequivalence; he is also editor of a scientific journal and an author.

From 13 to 15 September, the annual seminar in otosurgery and otoneurosurgery, titled “Progress in Otiatry” was organised by the Georges Portmann Institute of the European Academy of Otology and Neuro-Otology (EAONO) and the Ukrainian Association of Otiatricians, Oto-Neurosurgeons and Otoneurologists and held in Kiev (Ukraine). Assistant Professor and head of the Department of Otorhinolaryngology at Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) Gunta Sumeraga took part as an honorary lecturer. Her department colleagues and medical residents also participated.
This spring, the RSU International Students' Association had the pleasure of interviewing Marcel Bender, a 28-year old RSU medical graduate who is currently working in Germany. Dr. Bender is a second-year resident in orthopaedic surgery, traumatology and sports medicine. This was an interactive interview, held at Spiikiizi café, and students could send in questions beforehand.
On 6 October the International Students' Association at Rīga Stradiņš University is organising the annual international medical symposium at the RSU Medical Education Technology Centre at 26a Anniņmuižas bulvāris from 10:00 - 17:00, with a focus this year on “Essential Diagnostic Skills in Medicine”. Esteemed professionals not only from Latvia but also Great Britain and Mexico will be sharing their knowledge and expertise in diagnostics and skills.
On 12 September, a study course in minimally invasive (laparoscopic) paediatric surgery were held in the clinical skills centre Doctors Safe Train, jointly established by Rīga Stradiņš University and the Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies. The event gathered 17 participants: physicians, medical residents, operating room nurses, students from RSU Red Cross Medical College and veterinarians.
