In recognition of the 15th anniversary since Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) joined the European Commission’s Erasmus+ programme, on 18 October a reception was held together with the opening of a photo collage portraying Erasmus experience stories. The event agenda included an overview of the development of the Erasmus programme at RSU, and several participants of the programme shared their experiences. RSU rector Prof. Aigars Pētersons and the Ambassador of Italy to Latvia, Mr Sebastiano Fulci addressed attendees.
On 26 September the regular meeting of the BaltCityPrevention partner project was held in Vilnius. Project leader Aigars Miezītis and the scientific leader of the project Inese Gobiņa represented RSU (in photo). Meeting participants from seven participating countries discussed topics on the use of various tools that relate to changing teenage behaviour.
The annual Children's Health Day will be held on 2 and 3 November, organised by the Latvian Paediatric Association. As an initiative put forward by the RSU Paediatric Student Interest Group, for the first time the event will also include the International Scientific Paediatric Student Conference.
RSU Student Union is organising the traditional Science Month, with the aim to promote interest in current social topics and science-related themes, provide innovative approaches in science and their practical application as well as to promote critical thinking among students.

In the printed version of Latvia's The National Encyclopaedia, titled Latvija, launched on 18 October, six of the fields covered were developed, headed by academic staff from Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU). Obesity is evident in one in five children in Latvia, and the proportion of children who are overweight keeps increasing. As World Food Day, celebrated on 16 October, approaches, it is worth reminding of the significance of eating healthy food and leading a healthy lifestyle within the family, as it affects the health of both adults and children.
Currently the number of HIV-positive persons who are unaware of their disease is around 1800, as concluded after carrying out a mathematical modelling study. The international project was initiated in 2015 and carried out by Rīga Stradiņš University, in cooperation with institutions from France, Belgium and Estonia. The results that cover actual HIV transmission in Latvia and current identification approaches will be presented on 19 October during the concluding seminar at the RSU Medical Education Technology Centre.
On 11 October, neurologist and Assistant Professor of the Department of Neurology and Neurosurgery of the Faculty of Medicine, Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) Zanda Priede received the Golden Own Award by AS Grindeks for her significant contribution to science. Cardiologist Vilnis Dzērve-Tāluts received the D.H. Grindelis Award for lifetime achievement in recognition of his contribution to medicine and pharmacy in Latvia.
