The World Health Organization reports that 1.4 billion adults face health problems due to a lack of physical exercise. This applies to almost all office workers in Latvia, as working a sedentary job in an office for at least six hours, our body does not get enough blood circulation and other complications can arise, which in time can create irreversible health problems.

RSU Mixed Choir "Rīga" invites new members to tryouts

Rīga Stradiņš University mixed choir "Rīga"invites new members to tryouts.

Tryouts will be held on  6 and 13 September from 16:30 to 18:30 in the Senate Hall (Block K, second floor) in the RSU central building, 16 Dzirciema iela, Rīga.

Choir rehearsals are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 18:30 to 21:00.

The choir is led by conductors Evita Taranda un Zane Zilberte; choir master – Uģis Meņģelis.

Latvian scientists greet airport visitors

An exhibition titled, To know! It is in the nature of Latvia., dedicated to September being Science Month, was opened to the public in the Business Information Centre “Magnetic Latvia” at Riga International Airport and set up by the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia (LIAA). In September, visitors of Riga International Airport have an opportunity to get to learn about Latvian scientists and their achievements. Among them is Inese Čakstiņa, Leading Researcher of the Laboratory of Molecular Genetics at the RSU Institute of Oncology.

On Friday, 14 September, a public engagement conference of the Horizon 2020 PERFORM project with a focus on childhood infection will be held at Hotel Bergs. The conference sessions will be led by internationally acclaimed medical professors.

The conference is open to anyone interested and there is no admission charge.

RSU will host conference on rare diseases in November

On 9th November a conference on rare diseases will be held in the RSU Auditorium, organised by the Rare Disease Specialist Association of Latvia and the RSU Department of Internal Diseases at the Faculty of Medicine.

The aim of the conference is to provide current and future specialists with theoretical and practical knowledge on rare diseases, their diagnosis and treatment options.

Would you like to assist in a heart operation? RSU Faculty of Medicine student Lauma Putniņa was asked this question on the morning of her second day of an internship at University Clinic for Cardiac Surgery, Tirol Kliniken, Austria. This means that already on the second day of her internship the student was invited to take part in a heart operation where the patient's valve is replaced during open-heart surgery. The student considers this as an unexpected surprise and a fantastic opportunity.  

Exhibition "Ādas" (Skins) at P. Stradiņš Museum for History of Medicine

Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) Anatomy Museum invites you to an exhibition Ādas (Skins), which will be open from 31 August at Pauls Stradiņš Museum for History of Medicine at 1 Antonijas iela. Ādas is an interdisciplinary research and art project which is a joint collaboration between artist Ausma Šmite with the central focus — the restored collection of tattooed skins in the RSU Anatomy Museum.

On 30 August at 15:00 in an open session of Rīga Stradiņš University Medical Promotion Council (Conference Hall of the Medical Education Technology Centre, 26a Anniņmuižas bulvāris, Rīga) Ms Dace Bērtule will defend her thesis titled “Needs of Families with Children with Cerebral Palsy and Factors Affecting these Needs”.

In the dissertation the needs of families raising preschool-aged children with cerebral palsy in Latvia were researched.
